Life Stories are Being Written at Camp

As you read Amber's camp story, think about the life stories that will be written at camp this summer. In just a few days Amber will arrive at her new home in Nigeria! Let's pray for Amber!

Here's a fun fact: Amber was a GA her whole childhood and went to GA Camp at Riverbend each summer. Amber always wanted to be a teacher, but God worked it out so that after teaching for almost 10 years, she if getting to serve an orphanage and school in the bush in a Nigeria now.

Amber’s Story

It has been nearly 24 years, but I still have fond memories of the missionary couple from Portugal that I met during GA camp the summer after 6th grade. I cannot remember their names after all these years, but I remember being fascinated by their story. I had been in GAs for years at that point, but for some reason, that summer was the first time that it really struck me just how amazing of a life it must be to give up everything you know and move to a foreign country to share the Word of God.

For as long as I can remember, I always planned on being a teacher and I pursued that career whole heartedly. The summer after my first-year teaching, I had an opportunity to take a trip to Nigeria that changed my life forever. After ten years in the classroom, I have finally stepped away from teaching and committed to full-time missions in the village of Opi-Nsukka, Nigeria where I will be running a school and assisting with an orphanage.

Over the past year, I have thought about that summer at GA camp often. I can’t help but look back and be amazed at how early in life God starts planting seeds for our future! He truly sees where we are headed before we ever realize that we are searching. 24 years later and the Portuguese lyrics to ‘God Is So Good’ that I learned from those missionaries still play in my head any time I hear the song… “Deus é tão bom. Deus é tão bom. Deus é tão bom. É tão bom para mim.” God truly is SO good to me and I am so grateful for my years in GAs that introduced me to the life I never knew was in my future!

Sharing the Hope of Jesus in Africa

February 28, 6:15-7:30 pm

Mothers and friends are invited!

This will be a super fun night! Girls will enjoy meeting missionary Amber Jameson. She will show pictures that show what she means when she says she lives in the "bush."

Amber on Mission

Amber first visited A Place of Hope Africa Orphan and Child Rescue in Nsukka, Nigeria in June 2013 and immediately knew that there was something special that would always be pulling her back. From 2013 to 2022 she taught elementary school in Fort Worth, Texas, but continued to use each summer vacation to serve at A Place of Hope. Amber knew from early on that God was calling her to bring greater education to the children of A Place of Hope. She received her Masters in International Studies from Dallas Baptist University in 2020 in order to be the most effective in Nigeria. In August 2022 she followed God's calling to move full time to Nigeria in order to provide full time assistance to A Place of Hope Africa, Cornerstone Christian Academy, and to begin adult English classes for the village.

It's Time To Celebrate!

IT'S TIME TO CELEBRATE!

Recognition services are a special time in the life of a child. A great way for leaders and parents to affirm the achievements of their children, reflect on the fun and learning each have experienced during the year and to look forward to the adventures of the next year.

Learning what it means to follow Jesus and love others grows within the heart of each child lasting a lifetime. Girls have explored new ministries, committed new passages of Scripture to memory, participated in missions projects in their own community and had so much fun with friends! As we celebrate we are acknowledging the work that God has done in the hearts and minds of our girls. Each badge awarded is a symbol of these experiences.

Let's celebrate how our girls have grown in FAITH, SERVICE and FRIENDSHIP!
